• SSVP Singapore

Our goal is to fight poverty in all its forms, through the practical assistance to people in need. We offer direct, personal assistance that is non-judgmental and based on the need of the individual or family.

The Society of St Vincent De Paul (National Council of Singapore) is registered with the Registry of Societies, then Commissioner of Charities as well as National Council of Social Services.

The Society comprises some 1,000 Members and Auxiliary Members  (known as Vincentians) serving in the 29 Conferences (each of which is a unit of SSVP Singapore, and each serving a Catholic church parish) all across the island.

The Society also includes about 200 volunteers who volunteer at our thrift shops as well as for specific projects and programmes.

SSVP Ltd. was established by the Society as a Company Limited by Guarantee (CLG) on 28 February 2019. It is fully owned by the Society to further its mission by addressing the specific needs of our Friends in Need (FINs). These programmes address specific gaps for low-income and marginalised families and individuals.

SSVP Logo

The logo has been adopted by the International Council or Council General of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, headquartered in Paris, for use in every country in the world. The logo has the following meaning:

  • The fish is the symbol of Christianity and, in this case, represents the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul;
  • The eye of the fish is the vigilant eye of God seeking to help the poor in our midst;
  • The crossing at the tail or the tie-knot represents unity and oneness among members and also the union with the poor;
  • The circle around the logo signifies the global or worldwide stature of the SSVP, an international Society;

The phrase “serviens in spe” means “to serve in hope”, the hope that comes from Our Lord Jesus Christ.
