[Youth Engaging the Young – Student Volunteers Help Make a Difference at SSVP Children’s Event]
On 22 June 2024, student volunteers from the Singapore University of Social Sciences’ Public Safety and Security Interest Group (PSS IG) came together to create an unforgettable and heartwarming day for the underprivileged children who are Friends in Need from SSVP’s Conferences of St Anthony and Our Lady Star of The Sea, creating joyful and lasting memories to commemorate the start of the school semester.
With the help of nine dedicated SUSS students prior to the event, over 30 goodie bags and presents were prepared with delicious treats including Oreo and Chips Ahoy cookies, packets of Milo and Ribena, as well as boxes of Milo and Koko Krunch cereal, bringing smiles and sweetness to the children’s day.
On the day of the Children’s event, 14 student volunteers were given the opportunity to learn about empathy, community and kindness by interacting meaningfully with the children through games such as Blow Wind Blow and Simon Says.
In doing their part of giving back to the community, the student members have embodied the PSS IG motto: “PSS For the Community, By the Community” and making a positive impact.
